Castle "De Berckt". De
Berckt 1, 5991 PD Baarlo, The Netherlands
Rest assured, Pink Panter did not test any of the
routes described below. Pink Panter does not even have a car. Best to keep your eyes
open. If you are an experienced driver with superious knowledge of European
infrastructure, I am sure you find much better ways of getting there. If you
have no clue like Pink Panter ...... , just do the best you can, we can't ask
for anything more.
General info.. The Castle is in the East of the Netherlands. By the time you
get near our beautiful country (?), you should stop aiming for Amsterdam
Eindhoven but look
for Venlo (nearest main city in the Netherlands) and Düsselorf (nearest main
city in Germany). Do not go into any city, the village of Baarlo is South of
Venlo. Please have a look at the map. I trust you will bring a map with you in
the car and maybe you have a TomTomTomTomTom.
Castle "De Berckt". De Berckt 1, 5991
PD Baarlo, The Netherlands
From the
North / North-East: (North of Germany, Denmark and so on)
-
Aim for Hannover, Dortmund then
Oberhausen/Duisburg
-
By then, there should be signs for
Venlo or otherwise Eindhoven (find German motorway 40 / E34).
-
Venlo will come up, do not get
into the city, but follow direction Eindhoven for another 10 km or so till
you cross the river.
-
There is a big intersection;
follow signs South, direction Roermond and Maastricht (A73)
-
After 4 or 5km. take exit 14 and head South for
Baarlo (N273).
-
Keep your eye out for signs "de
Berckt" on you left, there is beer waiting for you.

From
the South-East (Germany, Switzerland and such)
- Aiming for Frankfurt am Main would be a good
idea.
- Then change direction to Köln and Düsseldorf
- Stay South of Düsseldorf and look for
Mönchengladbach, then Roermond.
- According to the map, it looks like
aiming directly for Venlo (once you are near Mönchengladbach) could be a
good idea, but it is actually quite messy up there. Besides, you would miss
the ferry then, its a cute one.
-------------
- In Roermond it gets interesting. Follow signs
Venlo to the North. You are East of the river, but Baarlo is on the West and
there are only few places where you can cross. You are on the A73, take exit
Reuver, follow signs Kessel and take the ferry to the other side of the
river (you better not try this with a truck).
- Follow signs Baarlo, go passed Baarlo (the
Castle is North of the Village) and keep an eye out for signs "de
Berckt" on your right, there is beer waiting for you.
----------- OR.....if you are afraid of water
- In Roermond it gets interesting. Follow signs
Venlo to the North. You are east of the river, but Baarlo is on the West,
follow motorway further to the North where it crosses the river and then take exit 14. Turn right again and head South for Baarlo.
- Keep an eye out for signs "de Berckt"
on your left, there is beer waiting for you.

From
the South (Paris or Luxembourg)
- Travel North somehow. Aim for Brussels or Liege
and Maastricht. Your choice. From Brussels you need turn East to aim for Maastricht
or Köln anyway.
- Once near and/or passed Maastricht, there should
be signs for Roermond and then Venlo or Nijmegen.
- After Roermond (you are on motorway A2), keep an
eye out for direction Eindhoven (means you stay on the A2).
- Get off the motorway (A2) after you have crossed
the river (after 4km or so) and follow the N273 (Healen, Venlo) North for
about 20km.
- Follow signs Baarlo, go passed Baarlo (the
Castle is North of the Village) and keep an eye out for signs "de
Berckt" on your right, there is beer waiting for you.

Coming
from the West (Antwerp, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, Amsterdam)
As well as from any ferry from UK (Calais, Duinkerken, Rotterdam/Hoek van
Holland ect)
Also if you came by Chunnel
- Initially, follow any sign to Eindhoven
From Calais, follow coast North(East) to Brugge / Gent / Antwerp /
Eindhoven.
- Near Eindhoven, change direction to Venlo
(Duisburg, Essen). You are on the A67
- Just before Venlo, turn South in the direction
Roermond and Maastricht (A73)
- After 4 or 5km. take exit 14 and head South for
Baarlo (N273).
- Keep your eye out for signs "de
Berckt" on your left, there is beer waiting for you.

The
last bit of your trip; from the train station to the castle
Castle "De Berckt". De
Berckt 1, 5991 PD Baarlo, The Netherlands
You have two options
- Bus77
from Venlo trainstation
(direction Roermond) brings you
to "de Berckt" in Baarlo in 14 minutes. Ask the driver to
warn you when you need to get out at "de Berckt" since you have no
clue.
-The bus stop is opposite the
entrance of the train station. Twice an hour,
10 minutes past the whole and ½hour.
-After your get out of the bus, cross the street and enter "de
Berkt" street.
A 6 minute walk is all that is between you and your beer.
- Taxi. We have asked a taxi
company to make an offer for bringing hashers from the station to the castle
for a flat fee, w'll keep you informed. This offer will be for the Thursday
afternoon and evening and Friday during the day. (and for the Monday when
everybody is leaving again). No news yet, which is not a good sign.
Regular taxi fare: €17.06
or €19.36 as a maximum <<read
this>>
-The taxi stand is on the right
(when you exit the trainstation). There should be ample waiting for you.
-Telephone numbers of taxi-companies will
be available at the castle for your return trip, There is also the regular
bus of course......
